New Front Door

Haven't been able to do much with the driveway retaining wall lately because I have been busy installing a new front door to the house.  This upgrade was way overdue.  The original door looked more like a back door. It also had a left hand in-swing instead of the right hand in-swing that you see on the new door.  That made it really awkward to squeeze into the entryway.

Barbecue Counter Doors

I made some wooden doors awhile back for my patio barbecue counter, but the wind grabbed them and beat them until they nearly fell off their hinges.  I decided to build some heavy duty doors out of steel.

Here are the results.  I kinda like the way they turned out.

They are all cut from 1/8" sheet metal with 1/8" x 1" Flat stock edges that are riveted.

Door Grilles

Here's some door grilles I did last summer.  They are all 1" flatstock with finial ends.  All the joints on them are joined with rivets.

Brick Tile and Wrought Iron

As part of my bathroom remodel last winter, I tiled the bathroom with some brick tiles.  These are actual bricks that have been sawed into tile thickness.  I just love the look of the brick floor and walls.

I also added some wrought iron towel hooks and tp holder.



Wrought Iron Plate Rack

Here is a wrought iron plate rack that I built for my wife a year or two ago.  It is built entirely of bent rod.  The little finials are 1/4" rod and the rest is 1/2" rod.  Just bent it up and welded it together.

Indoor Fireplace Upgrade

OK, here's a project from a couple of years ago.  We had a fireplace in our basement that was very plain and ugly.  I had a friend offer me some free stone from his property, and I already had my concrete column forms created, so I dug in. Here's the progression of the project...

My daughter loved helping me place the concrete for the new hearth, columns and mantel.

Here's the hearth and columns in place.

Next the mantel was cast and then all of the concrete was stained.  Then it was time to start placing stone!

All of the stone placed.  Now it is time for some ironwork.

Here's the design I came up with for the doors.  I think they turned out really well.

Wrought Iron Gate

Here's a few pics of the gate I built for my parents house.  These pictures are of the test fit of the gate (no paint, just bare metal).  It has since been painted black.  The gate gives access to the air conditioning units on the side of the house.
